Attraverso Festival, the touring Langhe-Monferrato-Roero and Appennino Piemontese summer culture festival, brings two evening shows to the UNESCO hill-borgo of Calamandrana Alta each July.
Why it's special
For two nights the medieval borgo of Calamandrana Alta becomes an open-air stage on the Barbera and Nizza DOCG hills, hosting acclaimed actors, philosophers and musicians as part of a festival that spreads across some thirty comuni in the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo.

Attraverso Festival is a touring summer culture festival that weaves together theatre, music, philosophy and storytelling across the hills of Langhe, Monferrato, Roero and the Piedmontese Apennines, staging more than forty events in around thirty towns of the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo. Each July it stops for a couple of evenings in the UNESCO hill-borgo of Calamandrana Alta, the medieval upper town above the Belbo valley.
The shows take place after dark in the old town's courtyards and squares, so the setting — vineyards of Barbera d'Asti and Nizza DOCG falling away on every side — is part of the experience. Tickets are sold through mailticket.it, and the full festival programme (which in past years has featured names such as Daniele Silvestri, Niccolò Fabi, Paolo Fresu, Elio, Marco Paolini and Carlo Lucarelli across its various venues) is published each summer on attraversofestival.it.
